The transmission shifts fine until about 55mph then if feels like it needs to shift but won't.

94 Dodge Dakota 4x4, 5.2 motor, previous owner claimed to have replaced the transmission prior to selling it.

Maybe the pervious owner put a different trans in without an overdrive gear? Only way to know what is going on is have a good trans mechanic look it over for you. Very hard to tell you what the issue is over the internet.
