Engine seized 3 miles from fresh oil change

Asked by Joecroft4078 Aug 11, 2019 at 04:45 AM about the 2013 Ford F-150 Limited SuperCrew

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. No prior signs of this grim reaper. Lose
in power. Immediately took to local firestone
and requested oil change (25%+ life left ) and
a complete vehicle inspection. Checked oil
myself before handing keys to shop. Full oil.
Little dark but looked accurate. They called
few hours later. “Your turbo is blown and we
don’t do turbo work. Come get it”  I go up
there and check oil level myself and pay the
man. States “turbo is blow. We don’t do
that.” Not another word. Asked can i limp it
to my house. Not even 4 miles. (3.9 exactly)
Man says sure but easy. $85 full synthetic oil
change. I leave and creep I mean crawl the
truck home. Nothing even close to what is
considered normal driving. Never over 30
mph. Never over 3500 rpms. Turbo suddenly
gets really loud. Fast fizzing sound. Maybe a
full second and engine turns off. I coast to
median. Check oil. Full. Check all belts and
anything obvious. All good. Turn key not a
sound. Push this massive beast across 2
lanes at 7 pm on a Wednesday. Good bit of
traffic. Thank ya lord for these healthy legs.
Go back over obvious things try to start.
Nothing.  Look at my receipt and sees “turbo
leaking prior to service. Vehicle is unsafe to
drive at this time.”  Ya I’m the dumbass who
reads all the fine print on my receipt at the
grocery store with a backed up line to make
sure I wasn’t double charged for my
overflowing buggie containing 1 gallon of
milk. Tisk tisk. Call local tow truck. Get call
from this actual repair shop 4 days later
saying engine is seized. Still has full oil level
10 days later. Average local quotes between
4 shops was about 7k for new engine.
Firestone denied at fault.  Not sure what to
do next. Nice truck. Never gave me a single
problem from day one from dealer. 1 owner.
84,033 miles. 3/4 of year over 5 yr power
train warranty. $600 scrape value is most
offered my any dealer across the state (I’ve
called every damn body) for trade in value.
Not sure where to turn.  23. Less than perfect
credit. 6 k owed on personal loan with its title
being security. No family. No one with credit
to cosign. Biting my tongue with every Ford I
see. No truck was never mistreated. 40k
truck off lot new. Had 94 Toyota for that.
Any suggestions. Not sure if anything is a
legal matter here or not.

Nothing legal as Firestone verbally told you the turbo was blown and also in writing. But wouldn't you just need a new turbo and not a new engine?
