2013 F-150 - A rare startup issue

Asked by Jan 23, 2017 at 01:07 PM about the 2013 Ford F-150 FX4 SuperCrew 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last week, there were two times where my truck would start up but not
react to the gas pedal (stuck well below 1000 RPMS).  I would have to shut
off the truck and restart (which it would take a second or two to turn over
and start).  After the restart it would work normally and react to gas.

This issue happened twice to me last week, the last time it happened was
in June of last year.  No check engine light associated with this either.

Any idea what might be going on?  I do want to take it in but wanted to
browse for ideas online from experts as well.

There could be an internal OBDII code registering in the computer system, but one which does not cause an idiot light to illuminate. Have the codes read by a place like autozone and see if an internal fault has been generated. Also, newer Fords will enter a "limp mode" if the system reads a major engine or tranny failure. Your owner's manual should explain further. Limp mode allows the vehicle to be operated at limited RPM's to avoid extensive damage.
