Question type: Maintenance & Repair

automatic transmission is slipping when cold and on hill....and how do you tighten e-
brake...can you do it the old way also...with it on and backing up.....Son is at college and
having some trouble, was trying to give him some things to try first...

They used to have instructions on the transmission dipstick. Check idling in Park with the engine and transmission at full operating temperature. E-brake is cable operated rear drum brakes. It should self adjust the drum brake backing up and applying the brakes, but there may be some adjustment required in the cables. The rear brakes could be worn out or a cable maybe broken also.
