What is wrong with the shifting in transmission?

Asked by Oct 12, 2013 at 11:53 AM about the 1995 Dodge Intrepid 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1995 Dodge Intrepid.  When the vehicle is cold the transmission will not shift
into reverse until the car has warmed up quite a bit.  The vehicle will also not shift from
first gear to second gear when it is cold.  I can drive the car down the road in first gear
until I get to about 20 mph then put the car into neutral, turn off the ignition for a few
seconds, then turn the engine back on.  This will shift the vehicle into 2nd and then
everything works fine.

Check your transmission fluid level, the solenoid, and maybe there is a problem with the trans valve body. Have it checked out. No easy fix that I can describe to you, sorry.

you might try changing the fluid and filter.
