Rattling with accelaeration, no power, lost oil after 1000 mile drive 1989 toyota pickup

Drove from DENVER TO MEXICO TO SAN DIEGO, GOT TO UTAH and truck lost power, rattled,
then died.  No oil on stick (checked when left Den), added 3 qt and started ok but contact rattle,
no power and shuts itself off.  Help.

Most likely engine damage due to oil loss, computers knock sensor is picking up on rattle and the ECM is trying to retard timing to stop rattle thus no power, fix the engine first then go from there, but as it is an 89 it may not be worth fixing.
