Something is draining the battery. Check voltage on it and see what its reading. Things like faulty ground wires, a dome light not turned off will easily drain the battery. If something is draining it, you will need to investigate whats the source of the drain. You can pull the fuse box off, use a multimeter and read the fuse readings for the most common culprits like dome light, radio, map lights, stereo amp, etc. Keep the battery hooked up, if you pull a fuse and the reading goes up, you found your issue.

I am going to suggest that there is a parasitic drain, such as the glovebox light or dome light being left on....barring that, the cables should be relatively new, and the connection of the battery to chassis and motor block should be solid~ I suspect an 86 would be needing a new timing chain by now...on decel you can hear the loose chain slappin around~ eric the car guy has videos on battery drain~ check those~
