exhaust backfire after running fine

I can be running fine and all of a sudden the engine acts like it jumps time. backfires VIOLENTLY through the exhaust then streightens up and runs great again! what cou;d cause this?

changedthe crank position sensor. so far so good

Afterburner a mix ox.coming from ambient air going to the exhaust mixing with gas
