I have a 1996 dodge intrepid. Battery light came on and car was acting funny. replaced battery. Car will start. But after driving lights so dim or out and car will die while driving. any idea

Charging system has failed so you basically just running on the battery until the voltage gets too low and the engine dies.

how do you fix that?

Recharge the battery and take it to a shop you trust, as your vehicle has a computer controlled charging system it will take a little more time to get a proper diagnosis on what has failed.
