Chirping noise

86 300ZX Turbo. It's been kept in great condition. $$$ I've been hearing a
chirping noise intermittently. Had the brakes checked. Mechanic said to have
the rotors machined or install new ones, as well as brake pads, but these
weren't an emergency…my brakes were still ok. I'm wondering what could
be making that sound?

Do you drive the car a lot or let it sit? Sounds to me you need to get out and do some driving and braking to take some deposits off the pads and rotors. Heat up the pads and rotors through the twisty roads.
