My rear differential is leaking a quart a week do the seals and bearing have to be replaced at the drums and do I have to take out the bolt behind the rear drive shaft
Most the time this is caused by over filling or just old age, prolly put new when seals in bearings no if they still feel good, and also if it's leaking from the cover drain fluid and take cover off back of rear end and clean it the put red silicone on it not a lot just enough to cover "some should squeeze out" then put back on and fill up
Do you have leak marks on the back side of the wheels or from the differential cover? One job is a whole lot easier than the other. I prefer using a differential cover gasket even though the factory installation may have only used silicone. Lot of aftermarket gasket companies will have gaskets.
Sillicone is way better!!! Be using it for years
