When I pull gas tank lever, gas tank lid does not open

If it's like my older civic there's a tang that's mis aligned . Ply open the door while someone pulls the cable . Once you get it open see what's up . The cable may be broken if people yank on it instead of just opening it . Pull a panel in the back to see if the cable is broken or access to it
