Corolla 2013 Transmission fluid changed @30k mileage?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 Corolla. On 1/15/2018, I was on a freeway and stepped on the
gas paddle but my car did not accelerate. It stayed at 50 to 60 miles per hour.
The tachometer showing the engine speed is in the red zone about level 7 to 8.
I went to an auto shop on 1/17/2018. The mechanic told me that the
transmission oil is dirty and needed to be replaced. He charged me for $100.
However, my co-worker later told me that Corolla transmission fluid is good for
a lifetime. So, are there anyone having similar problems for their Corolla?

Thanks both of you for answering my question! I drove to the freeway today and it accelerated better. At least, the engine speed is not at the red zone now. My question now is: why will dirty transmission fluid cause Corolla not able to accelerate? Thanks in advance for answering my question!

As the fluid reaches its maximim operating temp, over time it oxidises and loses its lubrication qualities. Think of detergent (that’s essentially what atf is, but instead of being diluted with water it’s used by itself.) if you add water to detergent you water it down and it will lose its strength. While the viscosity rises, it loses its ability to do its job. ATF is like that in the sense of when it reaches its operating temp and goes over (stop start driving in the summer usually onset’s this) it oxidises and gets thinner (its viscosity rises) thinner fluid results in loss of oil pressure which results in gear slipping. Hope this helps. No advice, just a bit of intel and understanding.
