2013 Kia Optima SXL
I have a 2013 Kia Optima. I just got the fuel pump
replaced. Or so I was told. it only had 1/4 of gas on it
when the fuel pump got replaced. I drove it about 67miles
until I filed up the tank. After filing up my car started to
slow down on its on as if it was going to turn off. I pulled
over and gas was coming out and the nozzle was closed.
I called the mechanic and he said it must have air in it. He
adviced I should run it about 100 miles and the fastest
speed I could. I'm really confused as to what is wrong
with my car.
It sounds like the tank was overfilled, did the check engine turn on when this was happening? Possible fuel venting problem may start occurring. Another thing is you should never drive your car which less than 1/4 tank of fuel, when you do that the fuel pump is out of the fuel in the tank and the pump uses the fuel as a coolant so if the pump is exposed it runs hotter and shortens it life.
Sounds like he got the fuel line and EVAP system line mixed up. There's also a fuel return line. After hearing what you were told, see another mechanic for this. Driving as fast as you can with fuel spraying out is very unsafe!! HTH. -Jim
