hi i have a 1998 dakota 3.9 5 speed 4x4 will a 318 bolt to my transmission
Most mfg. cars engines & trans have the same bolt-up pattern. But still check first. There isn't different transitions for different engines. Example: a 318, 340, 360, even a 440 all use the same engine to trans manual or automatic trans bolt pattern. Even a 225 six, see?
actually, even though the transmission is the same, there may be a different bellhousing used for different engines. in your case, yes it will bolt up, but the v6 uses a lighter duty transmission than the v8, so it will not handle the power.
I used a Hemi HD 4-spd trans, clutch & bell hosing with a 440" big block. They will all bolt up especially a Torque Flight automatic. I didn't say they all would last or work.
My Barracuda I bought came with & was modified with a Hemi (Borg Warner or Dayna) 4-spd bolted to a small block Plymouth engine at first. I changed it to a 440" later & they all still bolted together.
