I have a 98 Dodge Avenger 2.0 I recently bought it, It seems to be idleing kind of high around 1000rpm and a slight gas smell The rpms Go up and down some times it has a check engine light also

what is the code? if not know go to a local parts store like AUTOZONE and have it read for free...

i have a dodge avenger vvt 3.6l engine has irratic rpm and engine light was on with code p0456 when smoke test done nothing showed. did replace break booster vaccum hose, purge valve but still has irractic needle. sometimes hard automactic shift when slowing down and starting again from stop or stop at light. Mechanic doesnt seem to feel what im talking about. still no clue whats going on.
