2013 Volkswagen Passat AC does not work.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The ac doesn’t work. Need help diagnosing and trouble
shooting.
The clutch is not engaging. When I took it to a shop and
had them run a diagnosis, they couldn’t complete it. They
said that the compressor wasn’t getting powered.
Does it need more Freon for it to engage?
Is there a fuse/relay that could’ve blown?

Frankly, I don't understand why the shop told you that they could not finish diagnosing the problem, and I would NOT go back there. If the system is low on refrigerant (Freon) the compressor will work on and off. If the clutch does not engage, it can be a problem with the clutch switch. Check the Air conditioning system control unit fuse inside the Fuse holder on the left of dash panel, it should be number 15,10 amps. I think the fuses are in sequence, from left to right, starting at the top of the box (1-2-3 and so on).

Thanks for the advice, I checked, and it was missing a fuse there. I replaced it, however, still no luck. Another thing I noticed is the cabin recirculation button won’t stay on with the ac button, one or the other. Unless the engine is off and just he car is on, they both won’t stay on, regardless of that the air is still blowing hot. Another thing, I have found a stripped wire that seems to have been tore off of something in the engine bay. I am assuming that it is the ambient temp sensor because the on dash temperature reading is now blank instead of a number. Does that sensor seem to have anything to do with the AC? The air did go out before the sensor was lost however. Thank you for any more possible advice.

There is a pin on the compressor that wire out on mine. VW couldn’t find the issue and just filled with Freon. The pin will release Freon to protect the system and if fault or worn out, won’t go its job. Mechanic replaced, filled up and no problem in 2 years. My car did the same thing described above.

I have a 2013 passat S trim my ac stopped working summer of 2018 and worked on an off for about a month or two late 2018. the one time it worked steadily was when I went on a trip to big bear lake. I figured it might have something to do with the elevation I was at. I took it to a mechanic and he told me the compressor was receiving power but was not being energized. after that it worked a couple of times as sea level so I had reasonable doubt that it wasn't the compressor after all. motors don't just come back to life after they've shorted internally or grounded out. I'm assuming its an electrical control issue at this point but have yet to find a good thread about how to troubleshoot the electrical part of the ac system.

I have the same problem took it to my mechanic he told me the compressor works and there’s no leak and I cleaned my condenser and still doesn’t work but mechanic did tell me that it has to be a electrical problem because he couldn’t figure out what it was

I have a very similar problem, compressor didn't seem to be working properly, so I replaced compressor, along with drier, it worked great for a day or so, now compressor is not engaging, has low voltage about 7.5 volts. The weird thing is it's getting this voltage constantly with key on ac system on or off, still 7.5 volts.. thinking it's the climate control module. Any thoughts?
