Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Backing out of a car park power steer failed could only move the steering wheel by becoming a gorilla. Steering came right after a short time & then failed again at the next car park. Made it home but steering failed completely & would not move

A 2013? wow- that's a pretty new car and it does not bode well for the reliability of Subaru's "electric steering"- take it to the dealer (is it still under warranty?) and ask them "WTF!" maybe it's part of a future recall and people are already dyin'

Yes already at the dealer, they found a loose plug on the ECU & then found the main power going into the ECU arcing. They took the power of the ECU whilst I was there & I could steer the car as like having no power steer at all. When the power steer originally went it locked up & it took all my force even to move it. I believe the ECU glitched ????

I don't think a 2013 Forester has electric power steering. It's 2014 and newer if I'm not mistaken.

Hi Daniel This is the new model forester, & I purchased it just after they came out. They were released in New Zealand about June 2013.
