My 2000 dodge durango SLT 5.9L V-8 won't start and acts like there is too much gas. I pulled my newly installed plugs and they were very gassy. What could be going on?

Start by checking for spark. There are several components that can go bad to cause no spark.

what is the best way to check that with out having any specialized tools?

You can pull a wire off of a plug and insert another spark plug into the wire, lay it across something metal for ground, have someone turn the vehicle over as you watch for spark at the spark plug.
