Plenum gasket leak 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5I

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I bought a used 2013 Outback 2.5 with 83,0000 miles. My mechanic is
great but not specialized in Subarus. He just replaced leaking valve cover
gaskets successfully. My oil level was pretty low. So, he cleaned up engine
area and found another oil leak. He says it looks to be from plenum gasket
on left side directly above the back injector. Question: Is this something
covered by Subaru where my Subaru dealership might cover repairs? Would
they cover diagnostics? Thanks!

I think you are past any factory warranty coverage.

You sure it's a 2013 and not a 2012? Leaky valve cover gaskets are common on the 2000- 2012 SOHC 2.5i motor, but NOT at all on the 2013+ DOHC 2.5i motor, so there's a disconnect here somewhere.... Likewise I've seen sucking intakes on the older motor, but not (yet) on any 2013+.

Hello Subaru Guru Boston, Thank you for your response. I think you are absolutely right. The date of manufacture on plate in door frame was 6/2012 but it was sold as a 2013 and the vehicle book/manual says 2013. Not sure if this was deliberate to mislead me-the buyer. Why would a 2012 made Outback have a 2013 manual in glove compartment? I am the second owner. So, is a plenum leak worth fixing? My understanding is that there is not really a gasket. Thanks

I've seen 2013s made as early as 6/2012. This is pretty normal for all manufacturers as the model year turnover is usually the preceding September or October, and the pipeline has to fill. No malfeasance here.... Again, never seen this leakage in a modern FB motor. Very rarely has a front cam cover leaked, requiring removal and resealing with Fujibond. Again, be more specific, as you most probably did NOT have valve cover gasket leaks. I'm wondering if your motor previously ran dry, overheated, and warped mating surfaces? Weird....
