How can the FB series engine survive this whole mess???

Asked by May 19, 2017 at 10:07 PM about the 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: General

Starting in 2011,  Subaru Forester introduced a brand new engine, the FB Series
which made its way to the 2013 Subaru Outback and later models all the way to
present?   And, since the oil burning settlement, these articles continue to
smear Subaru including the EJ Series engines, even though they're NOT
affected.   What do you think?

LOL! At least it is better than the YUGO! Who cares if the FB survives? It is overdue for replacement.

F_O_R-. You know, having the older EJ Series Phase 2 engine that has been in service on the Subaru Outback since 1995 probably has colored my opinion of the car.... I don't have any serious oil consumption.... only a little more when towing the teardrop...in most cases just normal driving, my oil consumption is a quart every 3,000 miles... that's not bad at all. I do feel sorry for the people caught up with the oil consumption problem.

Reality starting to sink in? Buy a new Subaru Mark and you too will be a Subaru hater.

Probably not going to happen....I like my 2010 Subaru Outback Limited just fine. I'm selling my teardrop trailer ..... Moving on to another solution..... I'll keep my Subaru Outback Limited for a while..I do like the way it drives.. BUT, just purchased a third vehicle..

"these articles continue to smear Subaru including the EJ Series engines, even though they're NOT affected. What do you think?" That's the internet in general, lots of misinformation and opinions with true facts buried in the muck.

Actually the EJ was not mentioned at all in this article.

Grasshopper, you are AGAIN wrong in backdating the EJ to 1995. Sigh.... The current 2.5i is proving to be an extremely efficient, robust DOHC'er now that the rings have been sorted. NONE of the dozen or so '13s I've bought for clients have proven to consume ANY oil (5w30 synth)...but maybe I've been lucky. The extra spunk, fuel eco, and lack of long-term t-belt issues makes it a worthy replacement for the '06-'12 predecessor .

...and so far no slipping valve guides, either. Wait 'til you get that one, Grasshopper.

Tom-. Well said... Maybe I'm wrong, but, Subaru is the number 5 automaker for a reason.... Highly recommended by US NEWS and others......it's unfortunate that the FB series engines had flaws... they should have left well enough alone...the EJ Series engines were not oil burners like the FB series...of course, all engines have issues... early EJ engines had problems with head gaskets... finally solved in 2010 and later ...One thing is true, there's a legion of Subarus on the road doing fine, so, it's definitely NOT every car that is a problem.

Ernie, yeah, maybe you are lucky..... WHY do you think Subaru settled the oil consumption lawsuit??? Or, did you forget about that?? It's a real thing?? Yeah, maybe I should dump my Subaru Outback Limited before any serious issues???

25,155

By the way, my latest vehicle acquisition is NOT a Subaru.....

25,155

With all the ISSUES surrounded by the latest models and the dialogue on this forum, I can't recommend newer Subaru cars to people anymore.....

Ernie, you wrote, "The extra spunk, fuel eco, and lack of long-term t-belt issues makes it a worthy replacement for the '06-'12 predecessor." There goes your "beloved" handling wagons of the 2006-2009 era!

Grasshopper, your myopia results in so much misinformation being spewed. Please stop with the naive conjecture and false causalities.
