I have a 2013 Subaru Outback 3.6R with about 40,000 miles on it. I was driving on the highway in traffic this past week, going about 65 mph and the engine stalled. The car "lunged" a couple of times then completely died. Had to coast through traffic to the shoulder of the road. Dealer can't replicate the issue so is unable to make any type of repair. What should I be looking for? (Besides a new car?)

Find a dealer with qualified diagnostic personnel, the one you visited was not worthy. The vehicle PCM (computer) recorded the fail! once repaired say bye bye to Subaru before the next fail..

Auto_Centric- WOW, one failure at 40,000 miles and you're ready to just give up on the car? Could be many things, bad fuel pump, etc. My advice is find an independent Subaru expert. If this were a 2.5 FOUR cylinder with the oil burning issue, I might agree with you, but, it's an H6, 3.6 engine. Aside from the poor fuel efficiency, I can't think of any other reason to get rid of a car this early. It's just NOT a financial sound decision. Maybe it's just bad oxygen sensors or a bad MAF. Your advice to just get rid of the car signals to me that you're just another Subaru hater. Why do you even address Subaru questions ? Happy Holidays. Here's the list of cars subject to the lawsuit , notice that the 2013 Subaru Outback H6 is not present. http://www.torquenews.com/1084/update-subaru-oil-consumption- class-action-lawsuit

Intermittent problems are a pain in the donkey. I would take it to a Subaru specialist for diagnosis. If your car is under warranty I would make a big deal about it and maybe they will give you a loaner car while they drive it to find the problem. Call Subaru of America and tell them it is a major safety problem and have them lean on the dealer.

Bob- Merry Christmas you too. WHY are you invested in answering Subaru questions, you have said that you loathe these cars?? Your advice is just some sanctimonious judgement. It's not very charitable. And, you realize that getting rid of a car at 40,000 miles and only three years is VERY EXPENSIVE. Depreciation in the first three or four years is the steepest curve. The H6 , 3.6 engine is NOT on any list for oil burning issues. Advice like this is not a financially good decision. I wouldn't recommend this advice for your much beloved Lincoln Mercury and Ford products even though they have plenty of their own problems. Every car has one issue or another, that's just the way it is.

Please stop the noise, guys.... To Copas squared: CEL? Yes: scan and clear it and proceed as indicated. No: who knows? ECMs have spurious fails just like all computers.

FYI...No, it's very unlikely to be a MAF sensor nor fuel pump issue nor O2 sensor, Grasshopper. Again, please leave the technicals to mechanics. Merry merry and Happy You Near.
