Car won't turn back on

Asked by Guru91RYQ Jul 05, 2017 at 09:59 AM about the 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Yesterday when I was driving home four new light
popped up on my dashboard (EPS, check engine,
battery and oil). My car also would not let me touch
the gas at all. Luckily I was able to coast into my
neighborhood. I put it in park and turned it off. It
would not allow me to turn it back on. My radio, air
and lights all turn on but my actual car will not. I
have plenty of gas, my oil I perfect and we tried to
jump my car. We ended up having to push my car
home and still nothing this morning. Any ideas on
what to do/ what it could be? I have a 2013
Hyundai Sonata.

You will need to have the car scanned for codes, you may have to have the car towed to the shop if you don't have a scan tool.

Did you receive the letter in the mail from Hyundai regarding the problem you could have with the 2013 Sonata? During the manufacturing in certain plants metal shavings found there way inside the engine (small block) causing problems similar to yours. Hyundai suggests bringing the vehicle to the dealer to be checked, and will replace the block if necessary. They extended the warranty and will provide a loaner until the work is completed.

I had this exact problem. For starters DO NOT KEEP TRYING TO TURN IT ON you’ll burn out your starter. Secondly, I thought it was my alternator turns out it was my engine that locked up. I had no oil in my car even though I’d just gotten and oil change and my oil light never came on! Overall, $3,400 is what it costed me to repair it.

Happened to me yesterday in a 2011. I got the car pushed home , I Put it on a 24 hr battery charge , it started this morning , but now it’s making a horrible knocking sound. It also happened to me twice on a recent trip , but it started back up after a few minutes of sitting. Has Anyone else gotten a horrible knocking sound? All of the recalls have been done over the years & are up to date... thanks for any info

The same thing happened to our 2013 Sonata yesterday. We had the car towed to the dealer. They just called us and said that the motor has to be replaced. Since it’s under warranty it’s covered fully by Hyundai.

So this just happened to me but It was parked and just wouldn’t turn on. I did have to get the engine replaced a week ago due to the recall. Could it be the same engine issue or something different? All the same lights on my dash are on as erll
