2013 Hyundai Sonata engine races up quickly when gas pedal pushed

Asked by deepakp Apr 02, 2013 at 03:41 PM about the 2013 Hyundai Sonata GLS FWD

Question type: General

Hi,

I bought the 2013 Sonata a couple of months back. Love the car, in both styling and features. I have
noticed that at low speeds, when I push firmly on the gas pedal, the engine races up pretty quickly to
5000 RPM or so. This happens every time I try a quick acceleration.

I know that the RPM will drop as the transmission shifts (and it does) but the noise just makes it seem
the engine is straining to accelerate. I usually end up easing up on the gas to accelerate more gently.I
am not an aggressive driver, but even my much older taurus could accelerate without this much
drama.

Is this just normal behavior for the car (perhaps the engine is somewhat underpowered), or is the
transmission not shifting right?

Thanks.

Take it back to the dealer if you think there is a problem its under warranty. if there is a problem they will fix it with no charge. if its normal operation they will tell you.

Take a 2013 Sonata demonstrator out for a test drive to see if it's the same as yours.
