2001 Dakota 4x4 4.7 lost all gears after hitting dip in road...transmission light came on...also a whining noise which sounds like pump...changed filters...
Any external damage to the pan or transmission?
When you changed the filter, what did the fluid look like? Any metal pieces in the bottom of the pan? The whining noise is not a good sign. This could be the pump that has worn out. I've had a few transmissions do this. The pump is essentially 2 gears that mesh together and "pump" the fluid. They wear out over time, or the housing wears out. If this is the case, it's rebuild time..
