Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just put new rims on my Dodge Dart but I didn't
change the size of the wheels or anything. Ever
since I got them put on my car shakes on the
interstate and vibrates when I hit 70mph but only
when I'm pressing the gas if I take my foot off the
gas it stops. What could this be?

Rotate the tires from front to back both sides then take for a ride and see if it takes care of problem or gets worse or does the same or even does a lot better or not as bad.

Well if you did not have this problem before changing out the rims you must have a really bad bent rim. Where is the shaking coming from the front or the back ? Can you feel the shaking in the steering wheel ?

Yeah it's bad in the steering wheel. I bought then brand new and checked them out before they put them on. It was done at the dealership I bought the car at.

Yeah that's your problem either they are not balancing the tires right or the rims you brought are bent really bad and they can not balance them correctly.

Did you ever get the problem fixed Jcarter2010? Because I have the EXACT same problem.

I had to replace one tire after it was damaged. Car drove perfect before and slowly started to get a vibration in the steering after the new tire was installed. I checked the bolts and they were all fully torqued after 200 kms. So I loosened all the bolts for that tire. Tightened them up snug in the star pattern, then to 3/4 torque star pattern then full torque star pattern. All perfect now Some tire shops use an impact to tighten bolts fast and can actually put tire on slightly crooked. You don't even need to jack car up to correct it, just make sure you stop loosening when bolts turn free by hand.

I had the same issue and cost me hundreds to find out that all I needed to fix the vibration was the rim centers, I bought them for $20 and issue resolved! Hope this helps! I don’t know too much about this but I know that these centers help out and fill the mini gaps between oem vs aftermarket wheels, just ask for center caps and the rim dealers will know what you need
