I just got a 2013 excape it was old as a 4x4 how do
I know it is so?

An escape is most likely an AWD not an actual 4X4 the differance would be a knob or button inside that would have 4HI, 4LO, 2WD. To check if it is an AWD just look underneath and you should see a differential in the front as well as the rear.

Yes, look underneath, but no knobs or buttons in the interior, it's all computer controlled.
