Hard rear impact and now instrument cluster panel - fuel gauge only not working

Asked by rmm48 Jun 24, 2015 at 01:49 PM about the 2013 Ford Fusion SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was hit from behind at a red light, other car traveling at 32 miles per hour. $10,000 in damages to back of car. Picked up from auto body shop and within 2 hours gas gauge failed. Ford dealer says its the instrument cluster panel. Could this have short  circuited due to rear impact?

Sure could. Absolutely. When drilled from behind by a car at 32mph can and will cause all sorts of problems with fuel tank, pump, gauge sender unit. Regardless of where the problem is, you deserve to have your car fixed, and fixed RIGHT. It's NO coincidence that fuel gauge goes out on a 2 year old car right after that. If the body/collision shop can't figure it out let the dealer do it, and make sure this other parties insurance pays for it. Contact YOUR own insurance and let them get it done. It's part of what you pay premiums for even if not your fault... fault/no fault State or not

Thank you, currently fighting with the insurance to pay for it. The local Ford dealer told them it wasn't a result of the accident...I call BS to that.
