Any problems with 2500 hd rear axle?

Asked by Richard Aug 07, 2015 at 11:41 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LT Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2012 2500hd, 28k miles carrier bearings and 48k miles, all rear bearings replaced. Pull 8500 lb travel trailers across country. Is 3.73. Thinking of changing to 4.10 after the warranty period.

3.73 gear ratio should be just fine for pulling this weight, 4.10 or 4.11 I think you mean, will decrease your gas mileage dramatically. Once you get the rear end situated, I'd look into a good rear end grease to put in, I am a fan of Amsoil Products, very highly rated. Otherwise I think the rear end in your truck is a lemon.

Thanks Rowefast. I already run Amsoil in the 2012. Bad from the word go and I had upgraded to Amsoil right after the first repair. Thinking about upgrade to 4.10 as I already have an Avalanche with that rear. Not concerned about fuel when pulling. Its bad no mater the rear.
