2002 caravan had entire wheel come off while driving, do I need to replace the wheel?

Asked by Jul 12, 2015 at 11:16 PM about the 2002 Dodge Caravan SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My entire wheel & tire came off while driving
my 2002 Dodge Caravan. The tow guy said I
have to replace the rim, but the tire was still
good. Why only the rim?

Usually the lug nut holes are so badly hogged out that you could not get it to tighten up properly, that is why he said just the rim, but I would also look very closely at the lug nut studs as they are also usually damaged when a wheel comes off.
