how do I removed double-sided tape from chrome

Asked by Sep 08, 2015 at 02:23 PM about the 2012 Kia Optima SX

Question type: General

I removed the window vent shades from the chrome frame above the car
window.  Now I'm trying to get the double-sided tape off.  I have been told
that the tape was 3M, but I'm not certain.  I have gotten the tape off but
still have the sticky residue left.  I have tried Goo Gone, alcohol, peanut
butter, toothpaste, etc. but nothing has worked.  I'm guessing that the 3M
Adhesive Remover will work, but will it damage the chrome?

Thanks, joemom. I had already seen the second video and was a little concerned about the lacquer thinner. The un do sounds safer. I have also been told to try WD-40. Thank you! JakesDad2009

A general purpose adhesive cleaner will do a better job than WD- 40. See the link I posted above or do a search for adhesive cleaner.
