Temp gauge fluctuates, then reads hot and engine sputters during idle. When I turn off car, then wait a minute and start it again, it will fire up but not stay running.

Asked by Jul 26, 2012 at 10:23 AM about the 2003 Dodge Intrepid ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At this point the temp gauge is over the 3/4 mark to Hot and if I wait for the car to cool down it cranks up and runs fine.  Is this a thermometer issue or a computer issue?  The coolant level is fine.

Sounds like a thermostat issue! I would replace it!
