2003 Durango keeps stalling

Asked by Dec 18, 2013 at 05:23 PM about the 2003 Dodge Durango SLT Plus 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 that I just got "As-Is" 2 weeks ago.  Well, 2 days ago, it started stalling at just about every stop light or anytime I am stopped.  I have checked and tightened the positive battery cable, which I saw was loose, and was hoping that would be the fix.  Nope.  It wasn't.  I still keeps dropping RPM till it stalls out on me.  It re-starts with no problems, but I need to know what to do so I am not just buying parts for nothing.  Can anyone please help?

Try to clean the battery connectors with a wire brush or sanding paper. If that does not do it you need to have the battery load tested and replaced if it is bad, and also check what the alternator is giving out in volts, it should be over 14 volts. This has happened to my Durango when I have been using the stereo for to long and it took it about 48 hours to quit stalling. Our trucks need their power.

Thanks for the help. You may be correct on that advice. I just got this Durango 2 weeks ago and I swapped out the dead battery that was in it with my battery from my Grand Marquis. It also needs to have the top posts cleaned. I noticed that today when I was coming into work, that it had also of residue on the positive side. I havent ever cleaned it. Thanks and I will try that tomorrow. Thanks again for your advice. I am pulling out my hair trying to figure this out.
