What does it mean when my 2004 Ford
Explorer XLT will not drive in the drive
position but when I put it in third gear it will
take off and start driving forward and I can
put it back in drive and then it will continue
to drive but when I stop I have to put it into
third gear start driving before I can put it
back into drive and continue to drive with
my truck in the drive position????
To me it sounds like your transmission is on it's way out. If it is, the longer you drive it like that the more damage you are doing to it. I would take it to a reputable transmission shop if it was happening to me.
