I have 34k miles, the dealer said I need the throttle body cleaned ($65) and the fuel injectors cleaned ($140). Does this sound correct?
What kind of issues do you have? Injectors are probably fine at 34K. Run some fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. Techron is what I use. You can clean the Throttle body yourself for a $10 can of cleaner. Check out the videos of www.youtube.com to show you how.
Thank you. There are no issues, brought it in for an oil change, they do their natural inspection and told this to my wife. She called me and i told her to wait, if really needed we could do it next time, but it runs fine.
Sounds like they just want to steal money from you. No reason to do those things at that mileage and no issues.
Thanks again, it sounded like that but just wanted to check.
Top grade gasoline has cleaners in them, like Tom said, if you having issues use a can of cleaner in the tank first. Also I change gas brands so what one doesn't get maybe the other one does. If the car stutters or the gas mileage drops drastically than think of having this done, but an independent repair garage may be half the cost. But be careful, use one that is well known for not screwing customers and does a good job. They are out there if you ask around and look. For now, do the gas tank thing and keep driving. I have over 127,000 mile on my Buick and it is still running great. When I take a long drive, over 200 miles, I always drop in a can of cleaner. No issues yet.
