how are the black bump strips  on the side of 1983 d150 attached  are they glued on or attached by small bolts

There is a metal clip that is bolted to the body, on the inside of the body panel you will see those lousy self-threading nuts, the clip is made of pot metal. The studs on those clips love to just snap off. The molding strip then slides over the clips. See the pic, it's the reverse side of a typical mopar body molding from the 80's. The clip is all the way at the end.
