Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the car has been sluggish lately and I just put it off to the heat we have been experiencing... until I saw the light come on.  I do not want to ignore any possible damage to the car.

A P0301 code means that the the car's computer has detected that one of the engine's cylinders is not firing properly. In this case it's cylinder #1. Here is a link that might help......http://easyautodiagnostics.com/mitsubishi_ignition_tests/test_ignition_coil_1.php

The device that you used to scan the code comes with a manual that lists the codes and what they mean.
