Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Need advice..disabled buying with credit card...can't afford buying something
with problems....

150,000 miles checked by one mechanic. Front struts replaced. Everything
works. Am able to take to a mechanic of my choice for recheck. 5hours from
home and my mechanic. How would one find a reputable mechanic out of

What things should I be looking for? My mechanic says they are bull dogs
and parts are easy to find and cheap to replace. He suggests just making sure
the hood latches correctly and the brakes are sharp.

Have also spoken to a Reputable resale of Subaru here in my town and he
confirms the above mechanic and says they seldom need anything.

This Subaru does not have any maintence records and is a 2owner car. It has
been in Florida for 7years in Palm Beach but shows no signs of rust or flood

Thank you in advance for anyone who will take the time to advise me...

The cost is a firm $7,800.00 and is loaded with every option and added

Well I don't know about the car being a bull dog, first there has been at least 5 recalls on the car, did you ask if these have been addressed, the link is below. Yes they are reliable cars, but everything will break in due time. There has also been 10 (TBS) technical Bulletins issued for the car have they been addressed, see link below. Have you done a car fax on the car, this will have repairs done at a dealer and if the car has been in any acidents, link below. Have you taken the time to read any reviews on the car by real drivers of the vehicle. The 7,800.00 seems to be a good price, not sure you want to make the purchase with your credit card, allot of auto insurance companies offer low cost loans if you insure with them. A car with 150,000 miles, the things that I would look for to be done would be, water pump, timing chain, front and rear struts, tuneup, brakes and tires and oil and transmission fluid change all these things should have been done with the miles on the car, if not see if you negotiate the price down.

Who CAN afford to buy a car with problems? sorry dude, I'm broke too- it's a game with serious consequences for the unwary- maybe I should teach a course on how to avoid Automotive Tragedy- for now let me say: Ixnay on the Ubarusay

Not knowing the history and not having maintenance records would make me wary of buying this. Tribecas are pretty reliable, but all cars have their issues, and Subarus NEED to be maintained properly for longevity. If you have other options, check them out thoroughly. Don't let recalls and TSBs scare you, all car manufacturers have them.

150k is too high to expect no problems. Keep looking. The Tribecas also don't get very good gas mileage compared to the 4 cylinder Subaru's.
