my 2005 Dodge Stratus  w auto trans. when cold, she floor shifter moves easily, the indicator moves, all gauges are normal, but it does not always engage into gear. sometimes if i restart the engine, it engages properly. a few times I've had to rev it to get it to engage into gear

I would suggest first changing the transmission fluid and filter.
