Ford Edge 2012 turbo booster issue

Asked by Jun 14, 2017 at 02:20 PM about the 2012 Ford Edge Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light came on and ford service
found it was a turbo booster code. Said the turbo
booster needed replaced quoted at $2500. Decided
to trade car in and have been looking for another
car. 2 months later I'm still driving ford and the
check engine light has went off ?  My question is
how likely is it that problem is gone before I trade in
this car

Is the turbo working? You should have a boost gauge which should show positive pressure under acceleration.

personally, not a fan of the 'turbos' ford throws on their cars. If you need power, just get a V8. Turbos are just another factor that may lead to repairs. Sorry to vent, to answer your question: How many miles do you have? If its over 100,000, may be wise to find something else that won't risk needing turbo repairs.

If you have a power loss the turbo may be bad. An independent shop should be able to replace it for less than a dealer charges.

Yeah still $1800. But the check engine light wentt off and I wasn't sure if it may have corrected or if that was even possible.

Turbo cars need to be idled for several minutes before shutting the engine off to save the turbocharger bearings. Oil changes are also important and should be more often than a regular car.
