Mini Countryman Gas mileage

Asked by Aug 17, 2013 at 01:03 PM about the 2012 MINI Countryman Base

Question type: General

My 2012 mini countryman gas needle seems to move quickly (down 1 pin after driving 4
miles). Why am I burning so much gas? I just bought the countryman and read it is Good
on gas. Driving 86 miles round trip to work - I fill my tank twice a week. Is this normal?

t just might be the gauge. Some cars do this, one of mine does. Fill the tank, drive close to empty, refill and log the miles driven and do again. There also might be something built into the display the shows avg. MPG, read the owners manual.

The Countryman avg. MPG is listed as 27 City 35 highway with a manual. So you drive 430 miles a week and fill up twice. Is that to complete empty? Fuel tank capacity is 12.4, so if you run it to "E" your probably filling about 10 gallons. So if I take the avg. MPG of 30 x 10 gallons that's 300 miles traveled. So , yes you will have to fill up twice in one week.

My 11 Coutryman S is great on fuel consumption. It is not the All 4 and I do drive it in Sport mode frequently, hard. I get between 340 - 420 miles per tank. You mileage will be lower with the basic model and the All 4. The mileage does improve over time. Mine actually went up an average of 2 mpg with my new Michelin Primacy's on our stock 18" wheels! You can also change your air filter over to a K&N while running premium rather than mid-grade. I imagine that with a 40+ mile commute, there is plenty of highway driving. Stop & go will deplete you fuel economy drastically until BMW installs the auto stop/start feature in our Mini's. Let me know if you have any questions.
