ticking sound

Asked by May 28, 2016 at 11:42 PM about the 2005 Hummer H2 Luxury

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My H2 started making a ticking noise coming from
engine compartment.  Used to hear it when first
starting then it would go away when warmed up.
Now I hear it more not loud but I notice it.

What you're describing sounds like an exhaust leak-- these happen typically at the manifold, but not limited to the downpipe connection to the catalysts, and or primary mufflers. Its a pretty simple fix, but if you're not mechanically sound, and exhaust shop should be able to fix it for less than 250.00

You can try tightening the manifold bolts, making sure they are tight and see if it changes the ticking any. If you take it to a shop and they suggest replacing the gasket make sure they use a steel one.
