Asked by 2old4this Aug 23, 2016 at 11:03 PM about the 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Club cab (forward opening rear(2nd) door has connecting linkage broken,
unscrewed or something so it no longer releases the latch at the top of the
door. I can repair but have to get the door open to do so.

Check with the parts counter at your local Dodge dealer, you should be able to remove some or all of the interior panel, but it may require some special tool. But that should allow you to at least open the door, if not replace the mechanism.

I've attempted this failure. Unable to access screws for panel cover of rear doors unless it is opened.

2005 dodge dakota both suicide doors stopped working within same week. I took door handle loose and with a light was able to see the bottom latch. I took a stiff coat hanger and doubled it at about 2 inches & twisted it together then bent it 90 degrees, making about a 1 inch hook. With it I was able to hook the latch release below the black mount & pull up at the same time I pulled on the latch lever I had loosened to unlatch the top & eventually was able to feel door come loose by pulling on it at the same time. It took several attempts, but eventually It worked, I then was able to remove the 6 screws that hold the door panel on & by yanking on it, it popped off. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html? _ssn=okmarketplace&store_name=okmarketplace&_oac=1&_trksid=p4429486.m3 561.l161211 you will need to order the ends that need to be replaced here. There are a couple of youtube videos that show you how. by using the bent coat hanger it make it a lot easier. You dont have to remove the seat belt at the top. Try it, you can do it. Your welcome
