the battery light on my 2006 dodge stratus came on and now the AC doesn't work...why ?

Battery light always means a charging problem. Since the A/C doesn't work, it might be related to your serpentine belt as both the Alternator and A/C pulley is run off of it.

I am at the mechanics right now. He said I need to replace both the serpentine belt and the belt tensioner assembly. Running the AC on full blast apparently put too much tension on the old parts.
