why is my speedometer saying I'm driving faster when I'm not?
I just bought an 04 ford escape xls, and while I was driving it home the speedometer was
saying I was driving faster than I really was. Help please reply back, what could this be?
There are NO check engine lights on or any other warning lights.

The tires don't seem to be flat. I don't know if they're smaller.
No, it's that first expensive Naughty looking thing~why the manufacturers see fit to replace the good ole reliable CABLE remains one of life's modern irresponsible puzzles~...like we cannot duck it...it is bowling over the sensible people faster than we can take them to the junkyard~
wrong speed sensor or failing, may cause early shifting, may rack ghost miles up on odometer ,shouldn't hurt anything .this may be wireless from what judge displayed, I'm not familiar with this model farther research needed
If speed sensor was bad a code would be set. It would compare the reading to wheel speed sensors and would realize a problem. The gauge its self is probably bad. In that case the instrument cluster needs to be replaced or sent off and repaired.
Check with Ford. This might be normal. The speedometer on my '93 Chevy Caprice was calibrated to read 4 MPH higher than what I was actually going. The shop manual explained this was done to help you not get a speeding ticket. HTH. -Jim
