Turning a/c off makes clicking noise under dash (passenger side)

Asked by Sep 29, 2016 at 12:12 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Impala LTZ

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I left work yesterday, I started my car without any problem, my a/c
was running without any problem, but when i stopped and turned my car
off, I heard a clicking noise coming from the passenger side near the glove
box.  I restarted the car and the noise stopped.  Turned off the car again
and the noise started again.  Restarted the car again, no noise.  Turned
off the a/c with the car running and the noise started again.  Turned the
a/c back on and the noise stopped.  Turned the car off and the noise
started again...lasting about 30 seconds and then stopped.  The clicking
sound reminds me of the sound heard when we would clip a playing card
in the spokes of our bikes so my first thought was that something was
caught in the fan running the a/c but why would the noise stop when the
a/c is turned back on?

This morning, when I started my car (my a/c was still in the on position)
there was no noise.  I turned to the defrost position to clear the
condensation from my windows and the clicking started.  When I turned it
back to regular a/c, the clicking stopped.  Keep in mind, the a/c is running
fine and blowing cool air.  My commute to/from work is 60+ miles one way
and I had no problems with the a/c blowing cool air.  No clicking unless I
turned the a/c off or when I turn the car off.
