2012 Altima CVT issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Altima with 91k miles. 3 days ago, I was driving along and
pulled on an exit ramp and the car started to shudder and shake so bad, I felt
like I was in a blender! I pulled into the nearest stop and let the car rest,
wondering what was going on. After about 10 mins, started the car and
started to drive it. It sputtered a bit and then seemed to be fine. Back on the
highway and within a couple of miles, the car began to deaccelerate. I pulled
off the shoulder a bit, thought it would stall but it did not. Back on the
highway for about 100 feet and it started to shutter again (never made it past
30mph). Pulled over again and sat there, with it running, for about 10 mins.
Went to put it in drive and nothing - car would not move. Tried reverse -
nothing. Car sounds fine running in park and starts fine but won't move. I had
read about the CVT issues. While waiting for roadside assistance, did some
research on the web. The extended warranty for the CVT only goes for cars
up to 2010 so I'm guessing I'm out of luck. Found an article on
autonews.com stating the new Jatco CVTs that were rolled out with the 2012
models had lots of glitches (David Reuter of Nissan North America stated
there were issues associated with a flurry of new-vehicle launches in 2012). I
bought my car new in 2012.

My warranty expired in March 2017 and when I called Nissan on Friday, they
said the issues with the CVT were fixed. But, obviously not from the news
article.

My question is - has anyone gotten Nissan to pay for their transmission on
the 2012 cars, in full or in part? I had my car towed to a Nissan dealer and
Sat he said a new CVT would run me $3k - ouch! Would love Nissan to own
up and pay for some, if not all, of that cost.
