Engine on, in park, lift the hood. Listen to the area you heard the whine, or is it only when your driving down the road?

Your Escape is still under warranty. Take it back to the Ford dealer and they'll fix it free of charge. HTH. -Jim

i have the same thing, i think the best answer is just to trade it in and to never buy a ford again. i can't get any real answers from the dealer as to why it whines, it just is a noisy car. when i start it up, when i take off and when i drive at low speeds. my 2011 Ford Edge is noisy, sounds like the transmission but i don't really know and i am being told its a minimum of $100 to diagnose from the dealer that sold it to me.
