My 96 Sebring JXi Smells like it is running hot, but the gauges look normal
My 96 Sebring JXi smells like it runs hot, yet all indications on the gauges show it to be normal.
My oil is clear and at the correct level.
It just smells hot, after i drive 30min -1 hour... so i am afraid to take it on a trip or anything.
Thanks in advance for your help.
If it smells like coolant, it could your water pump going bad. Many manufactures put a weep hole in the water pump theat will seep out water/coolant when it starts to go bad. The other possiblity could be a bad thermostat causing the boil over into your overflow bottle.
Also if your waterpump is bad it is also recomended to change the timming belt at the same time.
What does coolant smell like? I thought it smelling hot was more of a oil smell.. but i might be mistaken. That's why i checked my oil and everything. >.< I feel like such a girl.
Coolant has kind of a sweet oily smell. With the car nice and cool you can check your coolant levels in your radiator and overflow and also smell it to see if it matches what you noticed before. It still could be and oil smell but you can check those out first to see if its smells the same.
Thanks so much. It is definitely just an oil smell. but i don't see a leak.
it might just be a valve cover leak that seeps out oil when hot.
Center bolt valve cover drips on to hot manifold just did this on mine and a customers
I have the identical car less the wheels
