Starter???

Asked by May 02, 2016 at 05:37 PM about the 1996 Chrysler Sebring 2 Dr JX Convertible

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Chrysler Sebring and last
night when I went to turn it over it made a
tick noise then nothing so we had
someone jump it for about thirty minutes
and still nothing it wouldn't turn over but
the cab light worked and the Windows
would go up and down. We tried again this
morning to jump it off with a powerful jump
box and still nothing. Could you help??

If it makes just one click then the problem is in the starter solenoid that sits on the starter, you can fix it if you can find a parts store that has the contact lugs and ring for the solenoid, if no one has them then your stuck buying a starter.

It isn't clicking at all now when we try to turn it over it just did the first time not at all now. Would that be the same thing?

Most likely. You did make sure the battery cables are shiny clean, none of that black corrosion? You can try tapping on the starter while someone turn it to crank on the key, if it does start then don't shut it off until you get it to where you are going to fix it, as it might not start again.
